SAFETY TIPS Check your equipment before you boat – Check the bow ball, Check the heel restraints are working, Check the riggers are tight, Check the hull and buoyancy compartments, Check the steering If any of the equipment fails one of the test above it must be sorted before you boat. Carry out a quick mental risk assessment – How experienced is the crew, How experienced is the cox, How fast is the stream, How good is visibility, How busy is the river, Are water conditions rough, Have we got a launch with us, Are there any other factors that affect safety,
If any of the above has raised the slightest doubt seek experienced advice. If you are still in doubt don’t boat. No one gets any benefit from an outing with unsafe equipment or in poor conditions. Get on the Ergo, the river will still be there tomorrow.
