Safety & Incident Reporting

All rowers making unaccompanied outings are now responsible for making sure a third party is aware they are boating and monitoring their safe return.

REPORTING INCIDENTS

If you or another person is injured or there is damage to the boat or other property you must log it through:

Incident Reporting at the ARA Web site.

Please notify the Club Safety Advisor as well on: 07833594700

If it is a near miss, you capsize, walk off the edge of the stage or any other incident that is not covered above but is not a normal part of an outing again this needs to be reported on the ARA Web site.

SAFETY TIPS

Check your equipment before you boat –

Check the bow ball,

Check the heel restraints are working,

 Check the riggers are tight,

Check the hull and buoyancy compartments,

Check the steering

If any of the equipment fails one of the tests above it must be sorted before you boat.

Carry out a quick mental risk assessment –

How experienced is the crew,

How experienced is the cox,

How fast is the stream,

How good is visibility,

How busy is the river,

Are water conditions rough,

Is there a launch with us,

Are there any other factors that affect safety,

If any of the above has raised the slightest doubt seek experienced advice.

If you are still in doubt don’t boat. No one gets any benefit from an outing with unsafe equipment or in poor conditions. Get on the Ergo, the river will still be there tomorrow.
